“I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor, it’s none of my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I want to help everyone, if possible, Jews, Gentiles, blacks, whites. We all want to help each other, those People are like that. We all want to live from the happiness of each other, not from the misery of others. We don’t want to hate and despise each other. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can care for everyone. The way of life can be free and But we have lost our way. Greed has poisoned people’s souls, barricaded the world with hatred, has made us miserable and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have included ourselves: machines that give abundance have us left in need. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unfriendly. We think too much and feel too little. More than machines we need humanity. More than cleverness we need fre gentleness and gentleness. Without these qualities life will be violent d everything will be lost. The plane and the radio brought us closer together. The nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness of men, for universal brotherhood for the unity of all of us. Even now, my voice reaches millions around the world, millions of desperate men, women, and young children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say “don’t despair”. The misery that is now upon us is only the passing of greed, the bitterness of the people who fear the path of human progress: the hatred of the people will pass and dictators will die and the power that they have taken from the people will return to the people and as long as men die [now] Freedom will never perish. Soldiers: Do not surrender to the blanks, men who despise and enslave you, who regiment your life, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who are boring, to feed you, to treat you as cattle like cannon fodder. Do not indulge in these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. They are not machines. You are not a cattle. You are men. You have love for humanity in your heart. You don’t hate, just the unpopular hate. Only the unpopular and the unnatural. Soldiers: don’t fight for slavery, fight for freedom. In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written: “The kingdom of God is in man” Not a man, nor a group of people, but in all people; in you the people. You, the people, have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You, the people, have the power to make life free and beautiful to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then, in the name of democracy, let’s use that power and unite us all. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that gives men the opportunity to work, that gives you the future, age and security. By promising these things, the beasts have come to power, but they are lying. They do not keep their promise, they will never do it. Dictators free themselves, but they enslave people. Now let’s fight to keep that promise. Let us fight to free the world, break down national barriers, eliminate greed, hatred and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world in which science and progress will lead to the happiness of all people. Soldiers! Let us all unite in the name of democracy! ”

  1. This is like my 16th time listening and every time I hear it it resonates with my soul even more. We want freedom put when we elect so leaders they enslave us all in the process. We should all be our own leaders and love one another. We get so wrap up in material objects but can't see the forest for the trees. Life is beautiful and free. But when we turn on a TV we see nothing but violence against one another. Message to anyone who reads this turn off TV stop looking for external pleasure in objects and look in yourself and love one another

  2. I'd like too think that his words are not wasted….
But has anything changed… are we just listening to the words but not fully understanding the meaning of the words to change the world. Or are we all to too contempt as we sit on our couches all day and let this system control us.

  3. machine men with machine minds and machine hearts, decades later this speech rings true. Amazing, yeah has to be the greatest speech I've every heard, for someone who didn't speak on screen he delivered one of the most powerful impassionate speech ever, When this first came out everybody's jaw must have just hit the ground. Awesome
